Where to focus

  • Highest weightage (~10 each): Constitutional Law, CrPC/BNSS, CPC — nearly a third of the paper on their own.
  • High (~8 each): IPC/BNS, Evidence/BSA, Family Law, and Contract-Property-NI. With the top three, these cover well over half the exam.
  • Medium (4–5 each):Tort & Consumer Protection, ADR, PIL, Professional Ethics, Labour Law, Taxation.
  • Lower (2–3 each): Administrative, Company, Environmental, Cyber, Land Acquisition and IPR — worth a quick, targeted pass rather than deep study.

A sensible plan: lock down the high-weightage subjects first, since being open book means you mainly need to know your way around their bare Acts. Practise any subject free →

Frequently asked questions

How many subjects are in the AIBE syllabus?

The AIBE syllabus spans about 19 core law subjects, distributed across 100 questions. It covers the whole spread of an Indian law degree, from the Constitution and the criminal and civil codes to specialised areas like company, environmental, cyber and IP law.

Which subjects carry the highest weightage in the AIBE?

Constitutional Law, CrPC/BNSS and CPC carry the highest weightage — roughly 10 questions each. IPC/BNS, the Evidence Act/BSA, Family Law, and Contract-Property-NI each carry about 8. Together, these high-weightage subjects make up more than half the paper.

Is the AIBE syllabus based on the new criminal codes (BNS, BNSS, BSA)?

Yes. The syllabus now tests the three new criminal codes — the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) — which replaced the IPC, CrPC and Evidence Act. They carry heavy weightage.

How should I prioritise the AIBE syllabus?

Start with the high-weightage subjects (Constitution, the criminal and civil codes, Family Law and Contract), which together account for over 60 of the 100 questions. Then cover the medium-weightage subjects. The low-weightage subjects (2 questions each) are worth a quick pass but not deep study.
